Work Experience

Senior resident medical officer , Surgical oncology 2012 – 2015
Gujarat Cancer and Research Institute, Ahmedabad,Gujarat

  • Pre-operative assessment, planning of treatment and preoperative work-up of around 50 cancer patients per week in the outpatient department of a specialised cancer centre that caters to cancer patients from around 4 states of India
  • Surgery and post- operative management of around 10 cancer patients per week. The surgeries included-
    • Head and neck malignancies with local/ pedicled flaps for reconstruction
    • Gastrointestinal malignancies- open and laparoscopic procedures
    • Thoracic malignancies
    • Bone and soft tissue malignancies
    • Breast malignancies with reconstruction with local flaps
    • Assisting plastic surgeons in patients who required free flaps for reconstruction in the above surgeries
  • Post- operative management and rehabilitation of patients in coordination with departments of plastic surgery, speech therapy, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
  • Planning of the entire treatment protocol and its follow-up in coordination with medical oncology and radiation oncology teams
  • Part of 24 hour on-call rotation for management of oncological emergencies
  • Conducted lectures, case presentations and clinics for undergraduate and postgraduate students in the department of surgery

Resident medical officer, General surgery 2006 – 2009

  • Involved in resuscitation, stabilization, diagnosis, evaluation and surgery and pre and post- operative monitoring of all surgical emergencies in a high volume tertiary referral centre with a patient turnover of around 50 per day

  • Award of appreciation from the MCGM for field work and work in hospital during the terrorist attack and bomb blasts in 2010.
